In addition to its much loved store in Richmond, Petersham Nurseries has just opened its doors on King Street in Covent Garden, bringing nature and elegance to the heart of London with an unparalleled lifestyle destination. Petersham Nurseries Covent Garden is launching in two phases; the lifestyle, home and garden shop, delicatessen, wine cellar and florist are now open… two restaurants and a bar will follow.
True to the horticultural origins of the family business and the heritage of Covent Garden’s past, there could not be a more fitting location for this new venture into central London. Bringing the garden back to Covent Garden, the family remains rooted to their blend of Italian and British culture. Whilst maintaining their passion for simplicity, flora, fauna and responsibly sourced produce, they have created an unrivalled setting within this urban environment. Their seemingly effortless ability to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary is demonstrated in all aspects of the new business.
At the helm, Lara Boglione, Managing Director and eldest daughter of founders, Francesco and Gael, continues to cultivate and develop the brand’s philosophy and values in this new venture.
The shop in Covent Garden represents the individual style and elegance for which Petersham Nurseries is renowned. The impressive Grade II listed building provides a befitting home for the new shop, set beneath three majestic Victorian atriums and abundant with trees and verdant greenery. The shop offers handpicked collections of homeware, furniture and gifts curated by the Petersham family, including one-of-a-kind pieces and exquisite antiques through to handcrafted items. From chandeliers and Murano glassware, to Italian hand-painted linen and cotton towels; each item has been carefully chosen by the Boglione family and is reflective of their home and personal style.
Staying true to Petersham Nurseries’ origins, the shop is a green space, with specialist indoor plants and magical floral displays sitting alongside artisanal gardening tools. With an emphasis on urban gardening and being mindful of smaller spaces in central London, the Shop provides inspiration for window boxes, indoor gardens, and terrariums. A potting service prepares and plants window boxes and containers for customers to take away.
For the first time, a delicatessen is a part of the Petersham Nurseries offering. Recalling memories of an Italian alimentari, Lara’s vision brings the spirit of a traditional Italian grocery store to this elegant setting in central London, whilst also drawing inspiration from ingredients found in the Boglione family’s own larder and fridge.
Travelling extensively around the UK and Italy, Lara has been searching for the finest and most delicious tasting produce. The delicatessen showcases items from small artisanal suppliers, some of which have never previously left their regional homes or been offered in the UK. Also available is a selection of the very best seasonal fruit and vegetables, some of which is provided by Haye Farm, owned by Lara's younger brother, Harry. The farm also supplies eggs to make fresh pasta daily.
The delicatessen stocks a wide selection of fine and responsibly sourced groceries with knowledgeable staff on hand to offer advice and inspiration. The selection includes Petersham Nurseries’ own line of jams, honey, muesli, tea and coffee, and a counter serving Italian style sandwiches, British and Italian cheese, charcuterie, fresh pasta and sauces.
Petersham Cellar, founded by Lara and her husband Giovanni Mazzei of Marchesi Mazzei, offers an ever-evolving selection of carefully sourced and handpicked fine Italian wines. The Cellar team are on hand to advise and suggest wines and pairings.
The florist captures the true essence of Petersham Nurseries. Dramatically wild, colourful, and romantic displays enchant and captivate. Bespoke seasonal bouquets and posies are readily available in store or to order online. In line with Petersham Nurseries’ ethos, there is an emphasis on seasonal, British-grown flowers and responsible sourcing.
Now that the first stage of their covent garden venture has been established, we are hugely looking forward to The Petersham, a sophisticated à la carte restaurant that takes inspiration from the family home, and La Goccia, a vibrant informal restaurant and bar serving small plates, which will launch at a later date. Both restaurants will flow onto Floral Court, the central courtyard and a beautiful green space for al fresco dining.
