Producing beautiful and innovative wallpaper designs since being founded in 1875, Cole & Son are one of the pioneering brands that bring excitement to interiors through their seemingly endless designs and collections. Each of their collections reflect their long and distinguished history whilst tying it in with their ingrained passion for creating new wallpaper designs. Cole & Son’s latest collection, SEVILLE, is no exception. Taking inspiration from the Spanish city where over two millennia of royal heritage as well as a plethora of cultural fusions define Andalusia’s capital, the final result is graphic architectural prints and antique palettes that span Terracotta, Teal and Canary Yellow, and which perfectly resonate with the upcoming spring and summer months. A colour synonymous with Seville, orange delegates the collection across the many designs and make a bold yet sophisticated statement from the onset. From the breath-taking Mudejar architecture, deeply rooted traditions and fragrant flora and fauna which define Seville, it’s almost impossible to choose one favourite design.
Taking inspiration from the UNESCO World Heritage Protected Site, the Alcazar Gardens design pays tribute to the architecture icon, which Cole & Son note ‘is a stunning testament to centuries’ old blend of Mudejar architecture and ornamentation.’ Pay close attention to the brand’s interpretation of the fortress palace’s gardens, where classic Terracotta & Spring Green Multi define the colour palette.
Moving onto yet another favourite of ours, the Orange Blossom design is in line with all that is synonymous with Seville, where fruit trees cover the city’s old streets and courtyards. Seville’s iconic fruit, this wallpaper also pays tribute to the regal tapestries found in the Royal Alcazar’s Salon de los Tapices through vintage-inspired palettes of Spring Green, Burnt Orange, Dark Olive Green and Lemon.
Some say it inspired that iconic balcony scene in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, but regardless, the Plaza Alfaro residence in the city is a significant structure which cannot be forgotten. Cole & Son’s Alfaro design is ‘a vibrant ode to Sevillian architecture in true-to-life tones of Canary Yellow & Petrol on Parchment; Ochre & Racing Car Green on Terracotta; and Dark Ochre & Forest Green on Duck Egg.’ Simply brilliant.
Beautifully translating Seville’s historical and architectural significance in each of their designs, Cole & Son have triumphed in reinterpreting the city’s unique colours and indulgent cultural narrative to a stunning collection. We don’t know who could have done it better.
