Located in Ibiza’s central region of Santa Gertrudis is owner and sommelier Anders Enkvist’s speciality wine shop and distribution SOMM.
Shifting his full focus towards his passion for wine following a twenty-year long career in party promotions and DJing back in Sweden, as well as eight years of experience in the wine import and distribution industries in both Asia and Europe, Anders saw the potential to add a fine wine store to his dearly loved Balearic island. His constant yearning for sunshine and personal connection to the island since the first visit in the summer of 1989 further persuaded Anders to combine his devotion to and knowledge of the beverage, turning it into a successful business.
For Anders, Santa Gertrudis was the location for his ideal vision of opening a quality wine store in Ibiza, as the demographics of the region proved to be promising, and moreover, the small village was not only saturated with the island’s rich culture and traditions, but also continues to be a place that many residents from the European mainland call home, including Anders’ closest friends.
Supporting local wine producers and stocking up on domestic Ibiza wine, gin, beer, as well as olive oil and the island’s native Hierbas liqueur was an essential aspect for SOMM in standing out as a wine shop and distributor, and Anders has managed to include highly-rated wines from Italian, French, and Austrian wineries to the staple local selection.
Besides developing itself to be a successful wine shop in one of Ibiza’s most sought-after locations, SOMM also accommodates a tasting room where wine tastings for up to twenty people can be hosted, in addition to attending to pop-up dinners and destination wine tastings. What initially was just a passion for Anders during his early DJing years quickly turned into a business opportunity and eventually an accomplished brand and store, and most importantly, continues to be the drive and dedication for the Swede.
