Sam Kaplan is a New York based photographer specialising in still-life photography; his latest set of images features a series of beautiful architectural sculptures made entirely from sticks of (unwrapped) chewing gum. A convincing montage of structurally-sound design, the chewable cityscapes depicted have all been painstakingly constructed by the photographer himself in-camera; no photoshop!
In an earlier set of photos, Pits & Pyramids, Kaplan has built similarly architectural landscapes out of biscuits and cakes, further showcasing his natural sense of form. Taking the same hands-on approach in all of his still-lifes, Sam is as much sculptor as he is photographer. We were not surprised to find out he studied sculpture as part of his studio art major.
