With its dark stonework and polished concrete, Can Cubista brings a touch of Balinese escapism to the Balearics. Imagined by Victor Abellán Garcia and Arquit3ctes, this is a villa that really sets the scene for its panoramic views. Against a backdrop of rich grey tones, the vivid blues and greens of the surrounding landscape are brought into even sharper focus.

Found on a walled plot, a feeling of calm descends as soon as the electric gate slides shuts. Comprised of two cubist volumes stacked on top of each other, the mix of exposed masonry and textured stone echoes the rocky outcrop of Es Vedrá on the horizon. The immediate surroundings are just as inviting; from the Mediterranean garden dotted with olive and cypress trees to the pine forest in the foreground, there’s nothing but greenery between you and the ocean.

Inside, large format Keller windows with minimal frames pan in on the setting. A grey tonal palette ensues, allowing the colours of nature to take centre stage – think concrete ceilings with a wood-effect grain and roughly hewn stone walls that add to the atmospheric, peaceful feel.

When the sun shines, step out to the 13-metre pool which shimmers with green sukabumi tiles – or take a break from the rays on the shaded, covered terrace. Wall-to-wall glazing blurs the boundaries between inside and out further in the open-plan living space. To one side, a cosy wood burning fire; to the other, a custom-made Iroko wood kitchen with brushed copper taps and black granite worktops. Functionality is considered throughout – note the adjoining cloakroom and separate laundry and storage area. A bedroom suite is also found on this floor.

A minimalist staircase leads up to two further bedrooms, including the elevated principal suite where a stripped-back material palette is conducive to switching off.
