Diving deep into the client’s needs, the local architectural vernacular and potential possibilities, YARD architects use model-making, drawings, and visualisations to map out and develop designs that unfailingly meet their brief. The practice was formed in 2014 by Simon Graham who worked with the likes of Pitman Tozer and Orbit Architects, and Jonathan Duffett. Working as a close-knit team of three plus a wider network of consultants and contractors, YARD Architects offer a tailored service that starts with briefing and concept design and carries through to completion.

Energetic and ambitious, their designs – built for longevity, pleasure and functionality – are regulars in the ‘Don’t Move, Improve!’ awards. A quick glance at their portfolio will tell you why. In Settle House: chamfered oak lined reveals, retractable roof lights and a custom-made kitchen. Original architecture meets contemporary design in the Bankside Loft – arched windows, exposed brick and timber beams sit next to a free-standing mezzanine, a monochrome palette and clever storage solutions.
