This studio’s holistic approach and tailored take on traditional modernism has earned them an impressive cabinetry of awards.

Flat roofs, expanses of glass and Miesian geometric lines are the tell-tale design interventions of this architectural practice. Their sensitive approach to natural light and the use of traditional organic materials blur the boundaries between interior and exterior. Cutting his teeth working with David Chipperfield and Julyan Wickham before setting up his namesake studio in 1991, Gregory Phillips has since perfected the formula for refined, modernist buildings that double as a dramatic backdrop for the theatre of life. This practice take a 360 degree approach.

Every element is designed by their in-house team – the architecture, the interiors, furniture and landscape – and they collaborate closely with a network of consultants to oversee projects through to completion. Each building involves a gradual process of discovery as you step through the door. Structure, purpose and comfort are given an upgrade in every space, whether its period conversions and extensions to contemporary new-builds. Each project is client-led, focusing on their lifestyles and their needs to create a tailored, one-of-a-kind solution. Projects include a RIBA South Award winner in Caversham with a six-metre-high wall of retractable, sliding glass and a soaring double height atrium.
