Spot the telltale minimalism of house-music pioneer turned interior designer Gianfranco Bortolotti in this five-bedroom villa. He was heavily influenced by Japanese style when reconceptualising this hilltop home in Cala Vadella – and it shows in the balance of volume, materiality and colour.

Inside, earthy tones and low-slung, clean-lined design makes a feature of designer silhouettes and almost wall-to-wall views of the surrounding countryside. Expect a backdrop of horizon vistas as you tuck into meals around the sunken dining area.

Outside: a large, teak-wood terrace lets you soak up views across this lush inlet – no neighbours in sight. Breathe deep as you follow walkways threaded between the Zen gardens. Al fresco living areas invite you to dip between sun, shade (preferably on a Richard Schultz lounger) and pool. A few lengths, perhaps. Or a few sessions in the sheltered outdoor gym as the sea breeze rolls in over the hills. This is a place to be as active or as relaxed as you like.

Fire up the barbecue with friends and family before sloping off to bed. Spread across the main villa and guest house, each private room is a place of calm seclusion. The sprawling master suite stands out with a private terrace, sky-lit twin vanities and a hydromassage shower. Plus a jacuzzi carved into the ground. Winding down has never been so easy.
