Reimagined fincas and contemporary coastal retreats realised by a roll-call of the island’s most in-demand architects.
Think Ibicencan architecture and what’s the first thing that comes to mind? A traditional whitewashed finca perhaps? Or something along more contemporary lines, featuring open-plan footprints and expansive panes of glass?
More often than not, island architecture blends old with new. Traditional structures adapted for everyday living; modern constructions that nod to the architectural legacy of the island. This selection of work-of-art rental villas by the masterminds behind Romano Arquitectos, Blakstad Design Consultants and Jaime Serra, among others, collectively feature all of the above. Ultimately, though, it’s not what unites these spaces that means they make the cut. It’s what sets them apart.
Casa Armonia, Cala Moli
Studded wooden doors make an intriguing first impression as you enter this Blakstad-designed, five-bedroom villa. Casa Armonia’s cubist, whitewashed exterior stands boldly against the verdant foliage, complete with a series of sun-drenched terraces to marvel at the rural views. Overlooking the heated saltwater pool, there’s a pergola with Sabina wood beams is a welcoming dining setting, complete with a hi-tech outdoor kitchen that’s tailor-made for hosting.
Casa Armonia is available to rent from €20,000 per week
Villa Bourganville, Central Ibiza
Every element of this 200 year-old finca has been reimagined with sensitivity and innovation by Agnès Roca of design practice LUV Studio. Positioned in the rolling hills of Can Tomás, there’s a canopy of bougainvillaea that blooms across the historic architecture of the former monastery – affectionately lending this six-bedroom villa its name. Inside, rustic charm ensues with stucco lime walls, woven furnishings, curved niches and roughly hewn Sabina wood. Contemporary interventions are equally as mesmerising; a green monolithic stone island stands serenely in the heart of the kitchen. With skilled landscaping by Eivissa Gardens, the grounds are filled with mature fig and winding olive trees, serving as a reminder that this place has been here for centuries.
Villa Bourganville is available to rent from €25,000 per week
Can Amigo, Atzaro Valley
California meets the Atzaro Valley at Can Amigo, another offering by Jaime Romano. Across its single-storey footprint, the architect’s trademarks of space, light and connection are visible from every angle. Glass is used cleverly and extensively to shift perspectives. Wall-to-wall glazing flanks the living space, offering double-aspect views, while a wide-reaching picture window in the study puts nature at eye-level. The abundance of natural light this invites inside adds warmth to smooth concrete floors and wood-panelled walls – an apt foil to all the greenery.
Can Amigo is available to rent from €56,000 per week
Can Ladera, San Rafael
A creative collaboration by island-based designers Blakstad and Ibiza Interiors brings a best-of-both-worlds feel to Can Ladera. Perched high on a hillside spot overlooking Dalt Vila, this five-bedroom villa – spread across a main house and guest casita – was subject to an inspiring renovation that blends the rustic and the modern. Lofty ceiling heights are paired with restored Sabina wood beams, while soft lighting and a wealth of glazing keep things beautifully illuminated. Throughout the landscaped gardens, there are custom-made pergolas and a state-of-the-art outdoor kitchen and lounge, perfect for hosting.
Can Ladera is available to rent from €25,000 per week
Can California, Jesús
Typical of the properties transformed by Ibiza Interiors, this four-bedroom finca sees harmony drawn between organic island materials, mid-century Scandinavian decor and hi-tech modern appliances. Can California’s open-plan layout is united by a natural palette of tones and clean-line wood finishes – with natural light pouring through full-width glazing, opening to the grounds beyond. The calming atmosphere ensues in the sleeping quarters, each crafted with bespoke timber joinery and natural linens, complemented by the refreshing greenscale-tiled bathrooms.

Can Meno, Cap Martinet
Lush hillside in the background; ocean in the foreground, this Blakstad-designed villa is less a product of the landscape and more a response to it. From the moment you cross the threshold, the sea swims into view. Slide back vast glass doors to watch boundaries disappear. Interiors are both ultra-contemporary and timeless: flawless white walls, stone floors and cubic shapes keep distractions to a minimum. Outside, a sweeping staircase grandly paves the way to manicured gardens and a free-form pool that’s a departure from the villa’s clean-lined interiors.
Can Meno is available to rent from €125,000 per week
Villa Mariposa, San Miguel
A traditional farmhouse reimagined as a rustic-luxe retreat. Villa Mariposa is the final masterstroke from Blakstad founder Rolph, no less (who has since handed over the reins to son, Rolf). As are the practice’s trademarks, the space fuses the fundamental tenets of Ibicencan architecture with contemporary functionality. The time-honoured pairing of white walls with Sabina beams remains, enhanced by restored joinery. Simplicity allows heritage details to take centre stage, from terracotta floors that have been shaped over the centuries to light wells that illuminate previously shadowy spaces.
Villa Mariposa is available to rent from €24,850 per week
Can Xita, Cala Jondal
With mesmerising contemporary design by Romano Arquitectos and expert landscaping by Terravita, it’s easy to settle into a peaceful pace of life at Can Xita. Boundaries are blurred between indoors and outdoors spaces here, with glazing that opens onto terraces and natural materials that echo the surrounding hillside. The 10-acre plot is rich with plants, organic vegetables and soaring palm trees, plus a 25-metre pool positioned to enjoy views towards Cala Jondal.
Can Xita is available to rent from €87,000 per week
Can Escenario, Es Cubells
An infinity pool seems to blend into the southern seas beyond at Can Escenario. It was the vision of Romano Arquitectos to capitalise on the panoramic vistas offered by this four-bedroom villa’s hilltop vantage point; to do so, they used sheaths of floor-to-ceiling glazing across the living spaces and bedrooms. As for materials and furniture, the colours are kept neutral to harmonise with the surrounding landscape.
Can Escenario is available to rent from €18,000 per week
