Rolph Blakstad founded Blakstad Design Consultants in 1967, after a personal renovation project led him to conduct scholarly research into Ibiza’s architectural heritage; you can read his findings in his book ‘Estudio de la Casa Ibicenca’. Rolph was inspired by Ibiza’s native materials; for him, the island seemed to breath an ancient atmosphere because technology had remained largely unchanged for centuries.

The success of his research, design and building is a time-honoured family tradition continued today with sons Rolf and Nial. Native Ibicencos, each posessing an unrivalled knowledge of Ibiza’s past, passed down from their father. The design studio is committed to preserving Ibiza’s identity by fusing traditional island architecture with modern-day functionality and comfort.

Materially and geometrically, Blakstad knits together Ibicencan textures and modern taste: expect timber, lime, stone next to clean lines, polished surfaces and sleek accents. With a wealth of experience garnered over several decades of architectural experience, the distinctive Blakstad style translates across cultures and landscapes throughout the world.
