Privacy comes naturally on this sprawling estate, consisting of a main house with six bedroom suites, two further staff suites and a separate staff house – all reached by a long, winding driveway. Gather in the open-plan living area of the main house where honeyed Sabina beams and a rustic fireplace create a warm welcome. Several terraces make this a great place for entertaining.

Interiors were co-created between the homeowners and interior designers Diego Alonso and Alexeja Pozzoni, and decor takes its cue from San Miguel’s undulating countryside. Think original features, knotted juniper beams and muted, earthy palettes. Outside: manicured, Balinese-style gardens.

Days here are spent dipping between the two swimming pools – one salt water, one natural eco-pool – day beds and a shaded pergola. The al fresco dining area comfortably seats over 20 guests. Invite friends for lunches and evenings under the stars. Stretch out in the glass-clad yoga studio or let stresses melt away in the sauna and massage room. The six bedroom-suites are all soft tones and luxurious cottons on solid-teak beds. Plus, each has scenic private terraces. Two rooms enjoy outdoor bathtubs, and all benefit from marble-clad en-suite bathrooms with deep, freestanding baths. Set in an independent casita, the Lavanda master suite is the real standout, with a private living room, luxurious bathroom and two balconies that gaze across lily ponds to the mountains.
