Dovetailing aesthetics with architecture, Miminat Shodeinde is a British Nigerian artist uniting form and function, art and design.

Miminat Shodeinde is one of the most individual and thoughtful designers of her generation. She set up her eponymous studio Miminat Design in 2014 whilst still studying in Edinburgh, and ever since has developed a portfolio of impressive designs. Her pieces are contradictory: at once feminine and brutalist, relaxed and elegant, maximalist and minimalist. Miminat subverts expectations about what functional design should look like, and takes inspiration from the female body, Nigerian music and folklore – not to mention architectural and material elements, too.

In addition to individual objects, she has worked with clients to create entire interiors, with projects in Ghana, Nigeria and Portugal, as well as in the UK. Her debut Okuta Collection took functional objects such as teapots and bowls used in daily life in Yoruba homes and elevated them to art. The more recent Omi Chaise and Table were conceived to invoke a sense of stillness in motion, while showing how wood can be both solid and delicate. For Miminat Design, individuality, longevity and sustainability are the new watchwords of luxury living.
