Artists + Artisans

Lydia Hardwick’s pottery is characterised by folk geometry and patterns, earthy colours and innovative shapes. Her work illustrates a beautiful functionality; her pieces are a celebration of the essential and the everyday.

Primarily working with clay, Lydia’s draws inspiration from motifs found within indigenous craft objects and textiles, made by communities that celebrate the power of visual objects. With influence from European craftmanship, she aims to reconnect us to an ancient appreciation of surfaces, tones and textures. Her working method is meditative and intuitive, letting patterns emerge organically whilst using techniques such as inlaying and slip decorating.

Since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2013, Lydia has developed her business, collaborating with individuals and galleries alike – notable mentions include Couveture & The Garbstore and the Alveston Fine Art Gallery. Lydia has also undertaken educational projects with the Royal Academy of Arts, Whitechapel Gallery and Camden Arts Centre. Browse her website for homeware or get in touch with the artist herself for made-to-order terracotta vases and hand-coiled pots.
