    Cities

Swiss cities are clean, connected and outward-looking – global hubs where business and innovation sit alongside green space and café culture. In Geneva, home to the United Nations European headquarters, diplomacy shapes daily life. International schools and leafy residential quarters such as Champel and Cologny attract a distinctly multicultural community.

Zurich, the country’s financial engine, blends banking and fintech with a thriving creative scene. Sought-after districts include Seefeld for its lake proximity and Zürichberg for elevated views, contemporary penthouses and family homes sitting minutes from the centre. Those drawn to historic architecture gravitate towards Bern, with its UNESCO-listed Old Town, while Basel offers more than 40 museums and hosts the prestigious Art Basel each June.

For a quieter rhythm, Lucerne stands apart – medieval buildings framed by mountains and water, offering an understated approach to city living, without ever losing that unmistakable Swiss sense of order and ease.

    Mountains

For many, the Alps are the most prestigious address on the continent. Snow-dusted peaks frame picture-perfect villages, where evenings unfold over candlelit tables in timbered chalets. Mountain living in Switzerland offers refined winter sport and a vibrant social scene, supported by reliable seasons and exceptional infrastructure across the resorts.

Verbier ranks among the most sought-after enclaves, prized for its expansive slopes and chalets with panoramic views. Its long season draws an international crowd as well as families attracted by nearby schools. Beneath the iconic Matterhorn, Zermatt offers a charming, pedestrianised village and miles of runs linked to Italy’s Breuil-Cervinia.

Further east lies St. Moritz. Set in the Engadine valley and twice host to the Winter Olympics, it remains a destination for the well-heeled, where designer boutiques and frozen lakeside polo sit alongside Corviglia’s immaculate slopes.

    Lakes

Life by the water unfolds at a gentler tempo. Along the elegant shores of Lake Geneva – Switzerland’s largest lake – medieval towns and vineyards backdrop a leisurely way of life. On the Swiss side, Lausanne, Vevey and Montreux line the shoreline, while across the water the French spa towns of Évian-les-Bains and Thonon-les-Bains add Belle Époque charm. Summer lends a cultural note through the Montreux Jazz Festival, while the nearby Lavaux Vineyard Terraces cascade towards the water with distant views of Mont Blanc.

In central Switzerland, Lake Lucerne offers a more intimate landscape, where calm waters and mountains frame villages such as Weggis and Vitznau. Further south, Lugano introduces a distinctly Mediterranean character. Influenced by neighbouring Lombardy, it blends Swiss precision with Italian ease – palm-lined promenades, café terraces and villas rising along the hillsides.

The deep blue waters of Lake Thun stretch west from Interlaken, where picture-perfect villages, historic châteaux and a medieval Old Town appeal to those drawn to period architecture. To the north, Lake Constance shared by Switzerland, Germany and Austria is known for its vineyard-lined shores and the 260-kilometre cycling route that encircles the lake.
