Rumble at The Deli, Tom's Deli

The gloves are off and the knives are out as a stable of talented young London chefs go head-to-head for three rounds of no-holds-barred culinary one-upmanship at Tom Conran’s eponymous Notting Hill hangout, Tom’s Deli.

Swapping blood, sweat, tears and toil for salted butter and olive oil, Shuttlecock Inc. - the team behind Mile High and The Great Indian Peninsula Railway - will transform this West London favourite into an amphitheatre of gastronomic guile and ingenuity.
The rules are simple. Every Thursday to Saturday for the month of November, two guest chefs will battle it out to see who’s King of the Rings.

Starring in this talented line up of culinary Jake La Mottas will be Shuttlecock Inc.’s ex-Moro prize fighter, Ollie Templeton and his talented team of scrappers, plucked from some of London’s top restaurants. Gearing up for a shot at the title will be; Max Pasetti (Bocca di Lupo, Trullo), Ellen Parr (Art of Dining, Moro), Pratap Chahal (Le Manoir, Chez Bruce), Stephanie Boote (Last Days of Pisco), Freddy Pethick-Money (El-bulli, Dorchester), Tom Starker (Heston's Dinner) and Tom Foster (St John, Boca di Lupo).

Inspired by the flavours of Italy and using the same raw ingredients bought from the market that morning (no two days will be the same), the two challengers will create their own three-course menu for the evening’s diners, with each course going to a vote when the plates are cleared. Best of three: primo, secondo and dolce.

Hosted by a larger than life MC – “let’s get rrready to rrrumble” – diners can look forward to an evening of high jinx and knockout food, as well as being treated to a classic DISARONNO cocktail both before and after their meal. The winner soaks up the applause, the loser washes up the pots and pans.

Shuttlecock Inc. are four cousins from the creative Templeton family: Anna, Ollie, Will and Ed who share a wealth of experience from the event, theatre, culinary, cocktail, music and advertising worlds. This year has been their busiest yet, with a string of sell out events including immersive pop-up dining experiences, Mile High, Vieux-Québec and The Great Indian Peninsula Railway. Following their collaboration with Tom Conran, they plan to take their unique travel-themed concepts abroad in early 2014.

Famous restaurateur, food retailer and entrepreneur, Tom Conran is a trained chef who has travelled the world finding inspiration for both the cuisine and design of his restaurants. Wishing to open a speciality food store in London which carried a wide range of food products and ingredients to tempt any discerning gourmet, Tom opened Tom’s Deli in 1990 and it has become a Notting Hill institution and food-lovers haven. Tom also owns and operates three other Notting Hill venues: The Cow, the perfect ‘local pub’ whose specialities include oysters, crab and Guinness, Crazy Homies, one of Europe’s few tequila lounges, and Lucky Seven, an American diner.

Tickets cost £55 and will include six dishes (a starter, main and pudding from the evening’s two chefs), a DISARONNO Sour on arrival and a digestivo once the dust has settled. All that's left to say now is... DING DING!!
