Crafting buildings that double as architectural sculptures, Platform 5 Architects’ award-winning projects are as playful as they are practical. Masterfully navigating restrictions in practicalities and planning, they’re projects make the most of characterful materials and intelligent design to fulfil the most challenging briefs. Expect a cascade of shapes, bold materials, surprising detailing and considerately connected spaces.

Flick through their NW10 project for a demonstration in ambitious design; an illusionary, elevated concrete family home built a tight triangular infill site. Their Schoffice project, too, capitalises on space; a glazed garden office with an overarching elliptical shell and a space-saving canti-levered desk. Since the practice’s inception in 2006, Platform 5 have designed and delivered crafted bespoke houses alongside larger scale public and master-planning projects. Drawing on VR to visualise their buildings, they work closely with clients in a process of constant dialogue to design creative solutions that both adds value and improves lifestyles. Headed up by Patrick Mitchell the studio divides its time between private homes, commercial developments, educational buildings and cultural institutions.
