We’re catching up with the new owners of La Viña Vieja, an off-market finca found and sold by Domus Nova Ibiza. From the rugged northern coast, the Scarborough Penns reflect on the process, and how our team guided them through the property market.
La Viña Vieja is a finca rooted in the island’s architectural heritage. Through the stone archway entrance, knotted Sabina beams run across interconnected living areas and up to the four bedrooms. From the balcony of this first floor you can really appreciate Ibiza’s pine-tufted northern coast.
Kitchens are the heart of many homes, but this one feels especially warm thanks to the rustic chimney beside the dining table. The finca is cosy in winter and cool for the other 300 sunny days of the year. Then you’ll want to fire up the barbecue beside the pool. An annex building is prime territory for redevelopment.
Ibiza’s a magical place to live. If you’re thinking about buying – go for it. The island is always going to be a great investment.
- Georgina Scarborough and William Penn, owners
What it will become is up to new owners (and our good friends) Georgina Scarborough and William Penn. The couple run a local production company, which they started when they moved to the island 15 years ago. They built their first home in San José, and sold up in February 2020 with the intention to move north. “We wanted a new project. Either a plot of land or a renovation,” they remember.
The Scarborough Penns turned to Domus Nova Ibiza as a guide – not just through the property market, but through a property market plagued by the pandemic. “It was impossible to view any properties on the island,” they add.
Their brief: to find a characterful, beautiful, countryside property. So we did. Pulling out our book of local contacts, we found an off-market home perfect for the family. “It was love at first sight. As soon as Matt sent over some pictures. It was finca-style and in a beautiful part of the island, with so many beaches and coves close by. He arranged the viewing really quickly.”
So, what would they say to other people thinking of moving to or within the island? “Give Matt and Rupert a call!” they chime together, going into the small print about paperwork and lawyers – a negotiating process led by Domus Nova Ibiza.
They add: “Ibiza’s a magical place to live. If you’re thinking about buying – go for it. The island is always going to be a great investment.”
