Founded in London in 2000 by Julian de Metz, Paul Forbes and Ben Knight, dMFK has built its reputation on architecture that feels both pragmatic and full of character.

The studio works across architecture, interiors and design, treating each as part of a single discipline rather than a sequence of separate decisions. Its portfolio is particularly strong in the reinvention of existing buildings. Offices, homes, civic spaces and heritage structures are approached with an eye for what can be retained, adapted and made relevant again. Rather than overwriting a building’s past, dMFK often allows its original fabric to guide the next chapter, pairing robust materials with carefully judged contemporary interventions.

That philosophy is evident in projects such as Chancery House, a workplace created above the London Silver Vaults, the restoration of Brewers’ Hall and the studio’s own Fitzrovia headquarters at 76 Charlotte Street. Across these schemes, the emphasis is less on architectural spectacle than on atmosphere, usability and longevity.

Recent recognition, including major workplace and interior architecture awards, reflects the practice’s growing influence.
