Positioned right in the middle of Ibiza, the pretty village is known as the island’s culinary capital. Surrounded by picturesque countryside and lush organic farms, the gourmet offerings found here range from Mediterranean classics, sharing platters of local charcuterie and innovative vegan dishes. You can also do wine tastings of bottles made from the island’s own grapes.
The main plaza of Santa Gertrudis is a delightful, white-washed square, built around an 18th-century church. Chic boutiques, craft stores and interior design spaces can be found all around the pedestrianised centre. Delight at handcrafted jewellery in Nino D’Agata’s contemporary store or delicate hand-sewn silk dresses in The Rose, where art and fashion can be enjoyed over a coffee.
The quirky interior concept store Sluiz Ibiza is a mile from Santa Gertrudis centre. Fabulously eccentric, Sluiz has clothing, live music and food. Look out for the giant blue cows that signpost the entrance.
For art lovers, Galeria Tambien is an art gallery-cum-design store, featuring mid-century furniture and ceramics. Founded by Natalie Rich and Jorge Fernandez, the space is known to be amongst the most interesting on the island. Exhibits include bespoke design from throughout the 1900s and contemporary fine art.
When you’re ready for refreshment, stop for a healthy smoothie at Musset Ibiza or taste the plant-based delights at Wild Beets. Largely raw and entirely vegan, the options are as pretty as they are delicious. Try one of their cold-pressed juices or medicinal elixirs and save space for dessert. Macao Cafe prepares woodfired pizzas and fresh pasta, and Bottega il Buco serves everything with their famously delicious focaccia.
Bar Costa serves platters of local cheese and cured meats – think manchego, chorizo and serrano. In winter they have fires to warm up by and always have an impressive selection of works by local artists hanging on the walls. Stylish Overall also serves cocktails to take away, check out their ‘Tasty Sips’ menu for premade cocktails you can enjoy at home.
The family-run eatery Numero 74 L’Atelier offers creative workshops for arts and crafts enthusiasts. Regular sessions include weaving, macrame and ceramic. They also sell ethical clothing in their boutique shop. They also make fantastic pastries if you’re after breakfast on the go.
If you’re heading north on your way out of town then stop for lunch at La Paloma, where organic vegetables from the kitchen garden are cooked into Middle-Eastern infused Mediterranean meals.

Outdoor restaurant and bar Vivo Bistro is a great place to enjoy a drink and Italian inspired food. If you want to pick up a bottle or two to take home, the ultra-trendy wine shop SOMM hosts tastings and stocks wine for every occasion. Founded by Anders Enkvist in 2017, it’s a great place to stock up your villa’s cellar. Just outside Santa Gertrudis on the road to Santa Eulalia is Ibizkus, the original Ibizan vineyard, where you can sample their award-winning Balearic rosé.
