French born designer and artist, Maud Vantours lives and works in Paris. A graduate from The Duperré School of Applied Arts, Vantours currently follows her original design training with a specialisation in textiles and material research.
Like paper, which has become Vantours’ favourite material to work with, colour, texture and pattern play a vital role in her work. She sculpts it in 3D, layer after layer, by superimposing sheets of paper and colours at calculated angles, developing her inspired patterns. Transcending the ‘crafty’ notions of such a simple material, she is able to create astonishing depth, bringing to mind the prismatic manifestation of a kaleidoscope. Vantours’ design creations are almost an analogue representation of intricate graphic design that might otherwise have resulted through digital methods. The finished paper-scapes are like the original graphics of multi-coloured, dreamlike landscapes.
Rapidly gaining recognition as an artist and designer, Vantours’ works have shown in galleries and been active in international exhibitions as well as in several professional fairs like Maison&Objet. She has also charmed and worked with luxury brands like Guerlain, Tag Heuer, YSL and Adidas for whom she has spearheaded designs for major campaigns.
