What made you both start a career in interior design?
From a very young age, we have loved fabrics and colour and how they work together. We were also fascinated with the evolution of furniture throughout the years and wanted to explore it further by our own interior design firm.
What’s the concept behind Clemente Beaubien?
We create totally bespoke designs for our clients depending on their individual needs instead of following a certain formula or look. We work closely with our clients to ensure their homes reflect their personalities and are as beautiful as possible.
How did you both meet?
We met while working for the same interior design firm. Having worked together on various projects so well, after several years we decided to start our own company, and thus Clemente Beaubien was created!
How would you define your style?
Eclectic, effortlessly elegant, comfortable and innovative.
What inspires you both daily?
So many things. We find that London constantly surrounds you with such an enormous range of inspiring sources and imagery that we are forever fed more and more ways to enrich our projects.
Which designer inspired you to start such a career?
As a child growing up in Canada, I spent hours with my mother's interior designer, Madame Carisse, playing with fabrics and trims, and creating colourful fantasy houses. Juana on the other hand has always been very involved in antiques, coming from a family of antique dealers.
What has been the highlight of your career?
There have been so many wonderful things since we started the company but it would have to be when we completed our very first project, realising that Clemente Beaubien was well and truly born.
Which designer are you currently watching?
The world art and fashion are always a great place to find inspiration for projects. We really admire Diana Vreeland's sense of freedom and Slim Aarons devotion to a world of beauty through photography.
What’s your London design secret?
That needs to remain a secret! In terms of markets though, we definitely love early mornings on Portobello Road for small, quirky pieces. Pimlico Road has the best antiques in the city and so we're huge fans of that area.
What design trends can you foresee?
We can see an increase in the use of warm metallics, brushed gold and brass as interior palettes become warmer. We also predict more use of colour overall but in a subtle way, more tone on tone to treat colours as neutrals for an elegant individual feel.
What are you currently working on?
Currently a family home in Wimbledon, a large Georgian house in Pimlico, a flat in Kensington, two homes in Notting Hill and a house in the Middle East.
What does the future have in store of Clemente Beaubien?
To keep doing what we're doing! Designing a range of fabrics is also on the cards.
Where are you based?
The Design Centre at Chelsea Harbour. We find it's an extremely inspiring place to be.
Where are you both originally from?
I'm from Montreal, Canada and Juana hails from The Pyrenees in Spain.
What other city could you live in in terms of its inspiring design?
Although we are passionate about London, New York or Barcelona would definitely be high up there.
Does your work ever take you abroad?
Yes, we've travelled to Milan, Oslo, Majorca, Paris and Qatar with our clients, working on projects while going out on shopping and sourcing trips too.
What makes you different to other designers?
The fact that we're from different countries and grew up in very different environments allows our designs to be very refreshing and unique. In a city like London where you have everything at your fingertips, we believe Clemente Beaubien gives a new, young approach to interior design.
