Richard Brendon is a British product designer who specialises in bringing together contemporary design and traditional craftsmanship to create unique and timeless collections. He founded his west London studio in 2012, specialising in the design and production of exceptional modern tableware. Inquisitive by nature, he takes an archaeological approach to design, employing his particular skill in identifying and distilling the best elements from the past and reinterpreting them to produce his signature style of insightful, refined and dynamic design. His goal is to fully understand the materials, manufacturing process or brand he is working with before putting pen to paper. What sets Richard Brendon apart from his contemporaries is that behind each collection, there is not just an idea, but a story. As each piece has been carefully contemplated by its designer, so does it instil a certain amount of contemplation, even mindfulness, in its user.
The studio is passionate about helping to regenerate heritage craft industries, and the quality of their products is second to none. All of the Richard Brendon bone china is made by hand in Stoke-on-Trent, England, where Josiah Spode first perfected the formula for this quintessentially British material over two centuries ago. His lead crystal is mouth-blown and hand-cut by artisans in Bohemia, who are world-renowned for their skill.
Richard is a keen collaborator, and believes that by uniting experts in different fields, it is possible to create truly outstanding products. This has led him to design compelling collections for retailers, restaurants, hotels and private clients. Richard supplies many of the best retailers in the world and his collections receive extensive acclaim in the media.
