Archer Street, W1
Compromise isn’t a word one wants linked to their property, but many feel it is inevitable should they choose to be environmentally conscious. More often than not, sustainable living entails making sacrifices on style and luxury. This property, however, does away with all preconceptions to deliver one of London’s coolest homes, with incredible wow factor.
The property was purchased in 2010 by an entrepreneur from New York who carried out a unique and extremely impressive refurbishment with Michaelis Boyd Associates. Involving a complete rebuild and design with an emphasis on achieving a fully sustainable and environmentally friendly home, the apartment has been created using natural products, all sourced and made in the UK. The owner reveals, “I was interested in living in a home where everything was quintessentially British and therefore locally made, as well as free from chemicals and either fully or partly recycled, while still feeling cool.” The finished product delivers environmentally sensitive design with an individually led aesthetic in what is an amazingly peaceful home in the heart of Soho.
Boasting immense free-flowing space, the property is welcoming from the moment you walk in. You are greeted by the open-plan reception room and dining area which work as the perfect introduction to the exposed brickwork, natural wood floors and steel and clay finishes that run throughout. The next thing you notice is the abundant natural light, thanks to the apartment’s westerly aspect, 12 windows and elevated position on the fourth floor of a prestigious red-brick building. At night when the original fireplaces are in use, the home becomes a haven of sexy style.
The living space links effortlessly with the fully sustainable kitchen which further leads down to the bright and spacious bedroom, which includes one of the coolest en-suite bathrooms we’ve seen. Though enclosed within a glass surround, this private space acts as the definitive peekaboo spot that’s a little bit naughty – probably a perfect description of the property as a whole.
