A FEAT OF ENGINEERING
Hewer Street, W10
Step inside, look up and prepare to be astounded...
Once owned by architect Mark Roche of then Mark Roche Associates, now MRA Architects, the property offered the ultimate cool loft-style space that just about anyone would hanker after.
The bold reinterpretation of the building converted in 2000, previously the Unigate dairy, was undoubtedly one of the most unique spaces to be found in North Kensington.
A suspension-style staircase suspended on steel cables transported you to a lateral Mecca of open-plan living perfect for entertaining.
Exposed wooden rafters supported a spectacular 35 ft-long glass roof where you could have been forgiven for thinking you had been transported out of London and into a New York loft.
It's fair to say that the owner/architect had been absolutely fearless in its engineering. We loved it.
