THE ART OF BEAUTY

Kensington Church Court, W8

Can a flat ooze sex appeal? If so, Kensington Church Court would definitely qualify. It smouldered with discreet lighting and sensuous bedrooms and bathrooms. Unsurprisingly, the former owner of this flat helped design the shops of one of the world’s leading designer lingerie brands - Agent Provocateur - and so knew how to add that bit of je ne sais quoi.

Tucked behind a fashionable row of shops, this quiet turning in Kensington is moments from Kensington Church Street and Kensington High Street. A moodily lit stairwell leads to a striking two-bedroom apartment with a huge double-height living room. Its open floor plan is the perfect setting for entertaining a deux.

Taking cues from her shops’ designs, the owner’s pink studded leather dining chairs hint at a naughty spirit, while the fur rugs and nude photographs left little else to the imagination. All is very sensual: textures reign supreme and warm lighting give a sensational boutique home feel. Soft palettes of greys and blues create a sense of delicacy and are also incredibly alluring.

And now to bed. Sumptuous satin sheets and velveteen finishes adorn both bedrooms, so beautiful that you would never want to leave. The master bedroom’s adjoining en-suite bathroom has a deep bateau bath over which is suspended a chandelier – the perfect and definitely the most indulgent place for a long soak. Shoe fetishists were also well accommodated for, as the owner’s custom-built wardrobes were generous enough to contain hundreds of pairs of heels. We take it that you noticed the Fornasetti plates in the guest bedroom, superbly placed so they keep a watchful gaze over anyone within.

Ascending the stairs to the mezzanine level, a small gym ensured the owner kept in gorgeous shape while the roof terrace afforded one of London’s most spectacular views over Kensington Roof Gardens, the High Street and of course Kensington Gardens. Come the balmy days of summer, what other place would you rather be?

It isn’t often that a flat gets us hot under the collar, but Kensington Church Court most definitely left us with memories to savour.
